A collision doesn't just break bone. It erases a face. My residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery trained me exactly for that - putting faces back together after trauma and cancer had taken them apart, rebuilding the face with bones taken from the patient's own leg or rib. That was the beginning of my surgical training.

Some of these surgeries lasted six, eight, twelve hours. Face was rebuilt. But when the patient woke up, that isn't what they reached for first.
They reached for a mirror.
And they looked for one thing: The SCAR!
Not the hours of surgery behind it. Not the bone that had been moved, shaped, and fixed back into place. Just the line - where the skin had been cut open, and where it had been stitched back together.
That was the moment I understood something no textbook had taught me: a surgeon isn't judged only by what he rebuilds beneath the surface.
That single realization is what pulled me toward facial cosmetic surgery - not as a departure from reconstruction, but as its natural continuation.
